Traffic Cameras, good or bad?

Traffic Camera

A recent study by the University of South Florida researchers show that red-light cameras may be harmful for the drivers, instead of keeping them safe. The study reveals that there are many crashes caused by drivers that suddenly stop at camera intersections, trying to avoid passing on the red light. “If used in Florida, cameras could potentially create even worse outcomes due to the state’s high percent of elderly who are more likely to be injured or killed when a crash occurs.”

The same study also states that the injury rate from red-light running crashes has dropped by a third in less than ten years because of the less use of cameras, and it is believed that drivers are more cautious when the cameras are missing.

Also, another problem is the intention of some city governments to shorten the yellow-light timing, generating more revenue for them, despite research showing that this would almost surely cause even more accidents.
