The First Electron Ever Captured In Motion

Posted on 14 March 2008

Scientists managed to capture on film the first electron in motion. Until now it was impossible to film an electron because it moves very fast. The camera that was able to capture the moment is based on attosecond physics, a technology that generates short pulses from intense laser light.

For the future the scientists are planning to capture an electron when it strikes an atom, but if it happens to make other important discoveries, they will be very happy and “they will have to be seen as a bonus”.
