Solar Shuttle Is Excellent For Thames Transportation

Posted on 31 May 2008

Although London will host the Olympic Games in four years from now, preparations for the event have already started. Among several projects, they are planning to design a solar powered shuttle for transportation along the Thames River.

The shuttle is viewed as the perfect transportation alternative because Thames is the ideal place in London for capturing sunlight, and many clues lead us to believe that the ship will be able to provide all the energy required to function, so there will be no money spent on fuel.

Has it not occured to anyone yet that we are being so foolish as to consider SOLAR power in LONDON. LONDON.

  2. phred says:

Has anyone actually done the calculations of the power required to propel the vessel, and what area of photovoltaic cells that would require? Sounds like a pipe dream to me.

That is a future we all can live with. Thanks for the post!

You seriously have to think more about this! LONDON people is the place where solar panels will NOT work! I mean come on! London has the worst weather!

    what about a sail boat?

Oh for goodness sake! Do you people know nothing about solar power?! You don’t need bright sunshine to generate power, just daylight. And do you not think that perhaps the people in charge of this might a) have thought about all this, and b) know more about it than you?

And Manchester has the worst weather :D

Amen to Steve. Manchester certainly does have the worst weather, well Moscow is worse but that’s not in England, even though the European football final between two English clubs was played there recently which incidently, is almost as bad as the idea of the American Superbowl finals being played at Wembley.
